Colorado CNA | Skill 21 | Provides Perineal Care (Peri-Care) for Female
Переглядів 15 тис.5 років тому
When caring for an elderly resident, be sure that the perineal area is being cleansed properly. Women should always wipe themselves from the front to the back. If you are tending to perineal care, take steps to ensure that you always wipe your patient starting in front of the urethra and wiping towards the anus. Before wiping the area again, fold the rag to a clean section. The idea is that res...

Переглядів 20 тис.5 років тому
Taking care of a resident's teeth and gums is just as important as digestive or heart health. Research has shown that there is a connection between gum disease and heart disease. Maintaining good oral hygiene is a powerful weapon against heart attacks, strokes and other heart disease conditions. in this video, Lisa demonstrates the technique of providing mout care to a resident.
Colorado CNA | Skill 19 | Provides Foot Care On One Foot
Переглядів 41 тис.5 років тому
Proper foot care is especially important for residents who have cardiovascular disease, diabetes or any other health issue that causes poor circulation in the feet. Foot baths can help tense muscles in the feet relax. A foot bath also soothes dry skin and painful bunions. Regular foot baths can prevent some foot disorders because many of them occur due to muscle tension. In this video, Lisa dem...
Colorado CNA | Skill 18 | Provides Catheter Care for Female
Переглядів 14 тис.5 років тому
A urinary catheter is a flexible plastic tube that is inserted through the opening of the meatus that carries urine from the bladder to outside of the body (urethra), into the bladder, to drain urine. The tube is kept in place by a small balloon that is inflated once the tube is securely in the bladder. Urine drains into a bag. A urinary catheter is used when you cannot urinate by yourself. Thi...
Colorado CNA | Skill 15 | Performs Modified Passive Range of Motion (PROM) for One Knee/One Ankle
Переглядів 13 тис.5 років тому
A resident on bed rest or whose activities are restricted can benefit from modified passive range-of-motion (PROM) exercises to help prevent joint contractures. Moving a joint through its range in appropriate planes maintains or increases its motion and prevents limited mobility. The Nurse Aide can perform the modified PROM to residents as part of their skill set. In this video, Lisa properly d...
Colorado CNA | Skill 17 | Positions on Side
Переглядів 13 тис.5 років тому
Positioning a resident in bed is important for maintaining alignment and for preventing bed sores (pressure ulcers), foot drop, and contractures. Proper positioning is also vital for providing comfort for residents who are bedridden or have decreased mobility related to a medical condition or treatment. When positioning a resident in bed, supportive devices such as pillows, rolls, and blankets,...

Colorado CNA | Skill 14 | Measures and Records Weight of Ambulatory Client
Переглядів 13 тис.5 років тому
Unintentional weight loss means losing weight without dieting or otherwise deliberately trying to lose weight. This often goes hand-in-hand with malnutrition in aging. It is possible to be malnourished without obviously losing weight. Weight loss and malnutrition is common in older adults. One study found that 39% of hospitalized older adults were malnourished. It’s important to detect and eval...
Colorado CNA | Skill 22 | Transfers from Bed to Wheelchair Using Transfer Belt
Переглядів 16 тис.5 років тому
A transfer is when you move a person into or out of a wheelchair. You may need to use transfer aids such as a gait belt, a sliding board, or a mechanical lift to help move a person. These transfer aids can help make transfers safer and easier for you and the person that you are moving. In this video, Lisa demonstrates the proper technique when transferring a non-ambulatory resident from a bed t...
Colorado CNA | Skill 9 | Dresses Client with Affected (Weak) Right Arm
Переглядів 25 тис.5 років тому
When a resident is very sick or disabled, they may have difficulties with dressing and undressing. In these circumstances, the Nurse Aide will either dress the person or, at least, help them to get dressed. The Nurse Aide should always encourage the person to regain the maximum amount of independence, when possible, and the act of dressing is one step towards independence. In this video, Lisa d...
Colorado CNA | Skill 12 | Measures and Records Electronic Blood Pressure
Переглядів 13 тис.5 років тому
Blood pressure can be seen as a barometer of overall circulatory health. A resident with high blood pressure is at a significantly greater risk for heart failure, stroke, chronic kidney disease and damage to the arteries, which can cause heart attack. Conversely, a blood pressure that is too low can cause other potential problems. In this video, Lisa demonstrates the proper technique for measur...
Colorado CNA | Skill 10 | Feeds Client Who Cannot Feed Self
Переглядів 32 тис.5 років тому
Malnutrition is a problem among older people, particularly those in nursing homes and can lead to slower wound-healing, higher rates of infection and pressure ulcer development. Among the causes of inadequate food intake are ‘feeding problems’, difficulty transferring food from plate to mouth and swallowing it. Residents may need to be fed individually. Some may also have difficulty swallowing....
Colorado CNA | Skill 8 | Donning and Removing PPE (Gown and Gloves)
Переглядів 15 тис.5 років тому
Personal protective equipment (PPE) helps prevent the spread of germs in the healthcare environment. This barrier reduces the chance of touching, being exposed to, and spreading germs. This can also protect the Nurse Aide from infections. In this video, Lisa demonstrates proper technique for donning and removing (doffing) her PPE, including gown and gloves.

      Hi, Thank you for your post! A jiggle jiggle sweep sounds like a sweet dance move! I don't know how it works when brushing teeth. The NACH handbook for Colorado Nurse Aide does not address this move, but maybe you will get style points?

    Is that rinse water supposed to go into a toilet, since it might have BM in it? Maybe your facility doesn’t have a toilet. I guess you could use a port-toilet just for practice purposes?

    • @northerncoloradotrainingin6388
      @northerncoloradotrainingin6388 Рік тому

      Hi Sheri, Thank you for watching our videos. You should never double-dip washcloths into bath water. If there is stool on the washcloth it should never make it into the wash and rinse basin, which is why it can be emptied into the sink.

  • @sherileepoetcmt
    @sherileepoetcmt Рік тому

    Does the order matter? It says in book to start with head/arm THEN put backside pillow in. If it doesn’t matter, your way makes sense too.

    • @northerncoloradotrainingin6388
      @northerncoloradotrainingin6388 Рік тому

      Hi Sheri, thank you for watching our videos. Order only matters on the state exam if it says first, before, or after. In this skill, the only steps in a specific order are "Before turning, lowers head of bed " "After completing skill, washes hands"

    • @northerncoloradotrainingin6388
      @northerncoloradotrainingin6388 Рік тому

      Hi, thank you for watching our videos! The skills are specific to Colorado. Unlike nursing, CNA does not have a national test and is managed independently by the states. Your skills might look similar but you should reach out to the state governing agency to make sure. It will be either the board of nursing or public health. Good luck to you!

    • @northerncoloradotrainingin6388
      @northerncoloradotrainingin6388 Рік тому

      Hi Sheri, thank you for watching our videos! Good catch! You only need to wipe off extra if it exists. If there is no extra (in my case there wasn't but I did want to show the step) then you do not need to do it. It is a bit subjective so I suggest you do perform it on the state exam. You don't fail for missing one step. There are no critical elements to the foot care skills so you would have to miss more than 25% of the steps to fail it.

      Hi Jesus, No kidding! Swollen legs and feet make the stocking a much more daunting task. Fortunately and unfortunately my manikin does not have limbs that swell. Get those stockings on before the patient's leg is lower than the body (dependent) to prevent too much edema before applying. First thing in the morning is the way to go!
